PhD scholarships are available at Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia in Chemical science and engineering in association with Universitat Rovira i Virgili.
The Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ), Tarragona was founded by the Catalonian government in 2000 and started its research activities in 2004. ICIQ is the center of excellence in chemical research and has employees 230 people since its inception.
There are 18 research groups located at the institute out of which 3 major research directions are pursued – supramolecular chemistry, catalysis and renewable energies. ICIQ is committed in transferring of knowledge and technology to several key industrial sectors including; pharmaceutical, chemical and energy.
The institute also aims to produce excellent scientists and researchers by offering educational programmes to Masters, PhD students as well as positions for postdoctoral researcher work. The goal of ICIQ is to guied and lead in solving major social and economic challenges, such as climate change, sustainable supply of energetic and raw materials, to construct a knowledge-based economy and to improve the overall quality of life for all.
PhD Scholarships at ICIQ
ICIQ is offering 13 PhD positions for excellent candidates interested in pursuing research in chemical sciences in association with Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV). The PhD positions are open to highly qualified graduates having excellent academic record, interest in chemical research, strong commitment to research and proficiency in English.
Individual research project will be carried out under the direction of an internationally renowned group leader. The selected candidates will have the opportunities for short stays in renowned international research institutions. The position will also include training in technical and soft skills; hands-on training in the use of state-of-the-art scientific instrumentation, grant’s applications, communication skills, career development, project management, entrepreneurship, research integrity, IP management, knowledge and technology transfer.

- Design, Construction, and Investigation of Chromophore-Protein Assemblies able to perform Ultrafast Energy and Electron Transfer Processes
1 position in:
- The Role of Coherence in Enhancing the Efficiency of Light Harvesting and Charge Separation in Photosynthesis

PhD scholarships are open to graduate students/graduates, from any nationality. The applicants must have a Master or (an equivalent) degree in the areas of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Pharmacy, or related disciplines. Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of CV, personal statement, previous academic results, English proficiency and personal interview (for short-listed applicants).
The selected candidates will be offered a salary of 17,785 Euro, split into 12 monthly payments. Social security will also be covered through the Spanish Social Security system, providing access to the Spanish public health care system, pension and unemployment benefits. The successful candidates has the right to temporary interrupt the fellowship in the case of a temporary disability, pregnancy risk, maternity, paternity, adoption or foster care.
