Czech Republic Scholarships for exchange

Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic (MEYS) offers several scholarships each year for foreign nationals to pursue a study or research stay within the framework of intergovernmental exchange programs arranged with the following countries:

There is a possibility to study/research at Czech public sector universities for applicants from 8 other countries as well, including: China, Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and Russia. For more information read – list of countries. Scholarships can be granted to applicant that are recommended for the awards by relevant authorities in the above mentioned eligible countries.

Eligibility criteria

Czech Republic scholarships for short-term exchange study or research is open to university students/graduates or PhD candidates who which to spend 2 to 10 months at the public higher education institutes.

The scholarship holders enroll into courses that do not lead to the award of a degree or pursue independent research activity as per their academic qualification and interest. The candidates should select a academic disciplines which is related to the field of study they are undertaking at their home university. Terms and conditions of admissions and requirements regarding the language and tuition are decided by the host universities.

Applying to art academies can be limited because the candidates are requires to meet the eligibility and to demonstrate their artistic talent, which includes; samples of their artistic work, e.g. photographs, recording of video/audio of a musical performance etc., the samples are required to be attached with the application forms of fine/performing arts students/graduates.

Primary mode of teaching is Czech language based but scholarship holders can be admitted to some English taught courses, though it should be noted that not all courses with tuition in English are open to scholarship holders.

Application procedure for Czech Republic scholarships

The deadline to apply for Czech Republic scholarships for short-term exchange are decided by the relevant authorities in the eligible countries (deadlines differ in individual countries). Candidates should include their preferred period of scholarship in the application form. MEYS has the right to alter the request term for scholarship or the higher education institution.

Nominations and application dossiers must be send to MEYS through appropriate authorities from the eligible countries. Applications that are sent directly to MEYS by individual candidates can not be processed.

The outcome of the scholarship application are communicated to the applicants by Decisions issued by the MEYS and delivered by post or collected in person by the awardees who already reside in the Czech Republic. There is no legal claim to the scholarship award. The scholarship is not transferable to another person.

Following documents (written or translated in Czech or English) are to be submitted in two copies:

Students whose study/research stay is up to 30 days

  • Academic CV
  • List of publications (if applicable);
  • Detailed study plan or research plan
  • Passport or ID copy.

Students whose study /research stays exceeds 30 days

  • Academic CV
  • List of publications (if applicable)
  • Detailed study plan or research plan
  • Passport or ID copy
  • Two recommendation letters from academic supervisors or an employer
  • Photocopy of diploma certificate and transcript

Academic staff members

  • Academic CV
  • List of publications (if applicable)
  • Detailed study plan or research plan
  • Passport or ID copy
  • Invitation letter issued by a department/institute of a public institution of higher education in the Czech Republic

Incomplete application forms will not be processed. Further information can be obtained from Czech Embassies in eligible countries and/or the appropriate authorities implementing the exchange program concerned.

Scholarship stipend

Czech republic scholarships for 2021/22 has a monthly amount of CZK 9,000 for candidates that do not hold a Master’s degree or equivalent and CZK 9,500 per month for candidates with a Master’s degree or equivalent, unless they enroll in another Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in the Czech Republic.

Tuition fee is waived off for scholarship-holders. The scholarship has to be collected in person at the appropriate department of the host university, unless the host university says otherwise. Applicants from Bulgaria, China, Albania, Lithuania, Hungary, Romania, Poland and Russia receive their scholarships from relevant authorities in their respective countries.

Affordable accommodation at student dormitories is offered along with the option to take meals at student catering facilities. During the submission of applications, the candidates are required to indicate whether they wish to obtain lodging at a student dormitory or not.

Non-EU/EEA citizens, are required to have a medical insurance policy for the entire period of their stay in the Czech Republic for obtaining long-term visas/residence permits. For more information on medical insurance, the applicants should consult the consular section of Czech embassy in their country.
